Computer repair
One machine, fixed, without a contract.
Laptop and desktop repair and virus removal for homes and small businesses across the Las Vegas valley. No retainer and nothing to sign: one machine, one problem, one published rate. Bring it to us, have it collected, or have it looked at remotely if nothing needs opening.
What it is usually doing.
People describe symptoms rather than causes, which is the right way round. The cause is our job.
It has slowed to a crawl
Sometimes software, sometimes a failing drive, sometimes a machine asked to run more than it has memory for. The three have different answers and different costs, so the diagnosis matters more than the symptom.
Pop-ups and unwanted ads
Usually adware or a browser extension rather than a virus in the classic sense. Often removable without touching the operating system, though it is worth checking what else arrived with it.
It won't start, or the drive is failing
If files matter and the drive is making unusual noises, stop using it. Continuing to run a failing drive is the most common way that recoverable data stops being recoverable.
Physical damage or it won't power on
Screens, ports, power problems and liquid damage. Whether a repair is economic depends on the machine, and being told it isn't worth fixing is a legitimate outcome.
Published, not quoted.
Most repair shops make you call to find out what an hour costs. Here are the three numbers.
$50 per hour
We come to your business or home.
$60 flat rate
We collect the machine and bring it back.
$12.50 per 15 min
Screen-share for anything that doesn't need hands on hardware.
Common questions
Asked before the machine is handed over.
- How much does computer repair cost?
- Three published rates rather than a quote: $50 an hour on-site, $60 flat rate if we collect the machine and bring it back, or $12.50 per fifteen minutes remotely. Which applies depends on whether the problem needs hands on the hardware. Parts, where a repair needs them, are separate and discussed before anything is ordered.
- Do you fix computers for homes as well as businesses?
- Yes. A failing drive behaves the same way whoever owns the machine, and the same rates apply either way. Household work tends to be a single computer that has stopped behaving; business work more often brings in networks and shared files. Neither requires a contract.
- My computer is very slow. Is that a virus?
- Sometimes, but it is one of several possibilities and not the most common. A drive beginning to fail, a machine short on memory for what it is being asked to run, an overheating fan, or simply a lot of software starting at boot all produce the same symptom. They have quite different fixes, which is why guessing before diagnosis tends to cost more than it saves.
- Can you remove a virus without wiping my computer?
- Frequently, yes. Most adware and browser hijacks are removable without reinstalling anything. It depends on what got in and how deep it reached. Where an infection has compromised the operating system itself, a clean reinstall is sometimes the honest recommendation, and in that case getting your files off safely comes first.
- Should I back up before bringing it in?
- If the machine still runs and your files matter, yes, and that is true before any repair, anywhere. If it won't start or the drive is making unusual noises, don't keep trying: powering a failing drive repeatedly can turn a recoverable situation into an unrecoverable one. Say so when you call and it will be handled accordingly.
- Is it worth repairing an old computer?
- Sometimes not, and you should expect to be told that. The calculation is what the repair costs against what the machine is worth and how much life it has left. A drive or memory upgrade on an otherwise sound computer is usually good value; a mainboard replacement on a machine already several years old often isn't.
- Which areas do you cover for on-site repair?
- Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin and Boulder City. Pickup is available across the same area. Remote support has no geography attached, so anything solvable over a screen share can be done wherever you are.
